As of now, I have the working research question of "to what extent does taking a gap year in college lead to better grades when returning to school."
1. Gap years
2. I considered taking a gap year before college started and decided to hold off and take one after getting my b.a. I've been interested in taking a gap year since I was younger when my cousin took one and moved to puerto rico and worked there for a year.
3. The surprising fact is that gap years are common across other cultures but in America it is uncommon but is becoming more acceptable as of late.
4. There is some debate as to if waiting a year in between academia years will slow you down and you'll come back unmotivated, but others argue that some come back motivated to complete education because you were without a structured school setting for a year and they miss the feeling of learning through those.
5. Yes
6. Subtopics of when to take a gap year/ is it socially acceptable to take a gap year (more famous people have been doing it)/ will it hold you back (will college look down on you for taking a year off)/ cultural differences (us it is unusual but in europe it is common)
7. I would like to further research the effect social media and famous people taking gap years has changed the stigma and how acceptable it is to take a gap year.
8. Maturity, motivation, grades, travel, work, learn by experience, structured learning
