My initial reaction
of reading Wysocki's "Multiple Media of Texts" was that the author
points out the readers subconscious in an interesting way. For example, Wysocki
explains that the way we percieve certain genres such as an academic paper or
story book have a lot to do with the assuming from the visuals which could
contain large pictures and text for a story book or 12 point roman fonts for
academic papers. When reading I found myself agreeing with a lot of what the
author said, when I saw different examples of shapes of text I made assumptions
of what genre they were. After reading this I think it will help me set up my
Wix website in a much better manner. I am aware now that certain colors,
shapes, text, photographs, and sounds are very important to presenting my topic
in a way that will be convincing but not confusing to my audience. I have
learned to consider what the audience would expect from an academic
presentation but also how to create a visually pleasing presentation by using
what is expected from the genre. Also, when other classmates present I can use
what I have learned from this text to better analyze how they used certain
aspects of the media of text.
