Research Changes

I deleted and changed some of my literature review because it was starting to sound really repetitive and annoying. I also changed how I was originally was going to structure my argument, but due to the word count, it needed to be fixed. There were also verb tense issues that tend to appear on my essays, but I am slowly breaking that habit. During the literature review, there was also some parenthetical citation issues that occurred, but once it was addressed, I fixed those issues.

Research Changes

What I did to change my research paper was the structure of the argument. At first I only labelled the category as "argument" instead of creating subcategories of the different topics of my argument which was detrimental to the the paper. Now, I labelled the different topics such as "flow", "coping" and "growth vs. fixed mindset". I also changed the way I cited my sources because in my rough draft I incorrectly cited some of them. These changes will help polish my paper to create a better argument.

Wysocki

This article discusses visual conventions of different genres. For example the conventions of an MLA or APA style research paper for school is easily recognizable by its formatting. And a children's book is easily recognizable by its pictures and captions. The author also discusses how the genre conventions change as time goes on. What we recognize today as one genre was unrecognizable a hundred years ago and will probably also be unrecognizable a hundred years from today. In addition the author talks about how different fonts also carry their own recognizable traits that give readers context. I though that the interpretations of fonts were interesting because I had never thought of fonts as a genre of their own.

Project 2 Action Plan- Eric Heinrich

Between the rough draft and final draft I added my works cited, formatted the paper to fit standards,  and finished my research and conclusion.

Wysocki

This text really opened my eyes to the importance of the visual aspect when writing or discussing a genre. After reading this I will plan to read a lot more about the visual aspect and plan to input this into some of my essays into the future. It will make me focus more on the detail when writing about things in to the future or things that are mythological. Wysocki will help me in the future analyze different genres and be able to pick out the visual aspects of each one.

Wysocki

The article wysocki talks about the visual aspect of literature and how by saying a word the reader will immediately know what the author is talking about. For instance, if i say the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog, the reader knows what a fox and a dog look like so the scene is easy to picture. This can be extremely helpful in my writing because i often write about mythological or fantasy settings so i need to know that anything that people dont innately know must be described in great detail. Wysocki is also helpful in alerting us the the power of the written word as a medium for great description.

Wysocki

I really enjoyed this article because its main focus was the visual aspect of literature. He talked about how our minds already know what something is just by looking at it, children's books are colorful and academic papers are double-spaced with small letters. Unconsciously, we classify literature into categories. I thought that it was very interesting because no one really talks about that. The multiple media of texts have completely different purpose that we do not think about but affect us in many ways.

Wysocki

This text made me realize how little I knew about the importance behind the visual aspects in a genre. Minute details, like font size and style, could indicate the level of difficulty of the text. Before reading this piece I had never took into account the meaning behind the visual qualities in a genre. But in the future, I plan to utilize these analysis skills and observe the different visual aspects in each genre.

Wysocki

The texts goes in depth about textual styles of many different media. Throughout the text, the differences of each style of writing are introduced. Some examples when as far as to point out the different text fonts and sizes. Wysocki also includes the overall shape of the text, comparing it to different genres, one being children’s books. She includes the reasonings for all these details, explaining how they can help shape the readers perception of the texts. Wysocki also includes how the styles changes over time, through many different aspects. It was interesting to see these differences brought up and discussed.

Wysocki- Eric Heinrich

This text was very interesting in how it describes visual elements effecting how we perceive a text and its context. The example of how research papers purposely take away all visuals so the reader is forced to focus on the content of the papers shows this concept in action. Another example of this is the people use large letters with bold colors in a for sale sign in order to get peoples attention. In total this text will help me in my remediation by showing me the importance of style in your medium.

Wysocki

I found this post very interesting because it discusses a part of writing that most people never think about which is the visual aspect of a work. This took me by surprise because I know what certain types of literature such as a novel or a children's book are supposed to look like but I never think about that.  I also liked how they mention the effect that visual aspects such as text, colors, and images have on helping the reader better understand and engage with the work.

Wysocki's "The Multiple Media of Texts"

Wysocki's "The Multiple Media of Texts" article was very fascinating to me because it showed how we expect certain things out of certain styles of texts. The different styles of texts that have been commonly used for certain types of writings almost automatically causes the reader to assume the authors reasoning for the text. The multiple media of texts can range from a for sale sign in big bold letters to a nice long novel; these two different types of text have to very different reasons for there existence.

Wysocki

I found this passage very interesting because I did not know one is not aware of the paper or the visual aspect of the design of the paper.  I also did not know that attitudes are thought of and how to persuade the audience when people print their stuff to sell.  This passage asked questions like, "what do you think when you look at this letter or the size?"  People think about this stuff when trying to persuade their audience.  Visual aspects are major in the book world so is communication.

Multiple Media of Texts

I found this article to be very interesting, seeing how many little details go into designing something. For example, how important colors are for an advertisement and how the style of text plays into the design. It is intriguing how children's cartoons contain many bright colors to keep the children enticed.  Also, I enjoyed reading about how the style of writing has changed over time. How people throughout the centuries modified the styles. I think this article can help me with project three because I am writing a children's book. The information on colors and text will help me design it.

Wysocki

This work discusses visual conventions rather than genre convetions through text. I have never realized that the size of a book has to do with the audience it is made for, like a children's book is made smaller with larger text. and an encyclopedia is larger and heavier, a child would not be carrying a book like this around. This helps me with my subversion, I am creating a cartoon and i will be able to tailor it to children while having the content be for young adults in a stairical way.

Action Plan

After reading my peer reviews, I structured my essay so that each paragraph had a specific point and theme to it. I made my essay flow and easy to read/understand. I also explained what holistic medicine was and added why it is better than conventional medicine, instead of acting like the readers knew about it already. I went back and added more of my own words instead of using all quotes. towards the end of my work, it was fewer quotes and more explanation. I also made my lit review more clear and concise.

Multiple Media of Texts

In this chapter that explains all of the types of choices that go into deciding the visual elements of books, blogs, etc.  I was surprised to find so many details were chosen because of their visual appeal.  Although thinking of creating an attractive format for people to want to read the paper, I had not understood that so much thought went into basic things such as the font of medieval texts.  While I knew that thought went into the visual attraction of texts like graphs and photographs, I had not realized this thought had been present in past generations.

multiple media of texts

This article made a lot of sense relating visuals to different genres. One thing I found interesting was how logo designers chose visuals that will make consumers think of other things related to that object. I also never thought about how much different texts may affect the actual perception of the writing. Obviously I knew that there are more professional texts for formal writings, but I did not think of fonts for other types of writings. I always just chose the pretty ones. The section called "typefaces for extended reading" also intrigued me. All of the more famous fonts all ment something different in their time period.

Wysocki

This text discusses the conventions of page layout and structure for different genres. It talks about how when we read different genres we expect the page to look different or be formatted different and whether or not we expect it to have pictures. Wysocki also points out that throughout time and advancement of technology these norms of page layout conventions change and can continue to change. Throughout the article the different way to use layouts is explained and defined for example, different fonts are explained and interpreted as well as the use of pictures. The use of pictures is explained for instance, when a text would have a diagram or a drawing of some kind. All those different things can help the reader make connection throughout the text. Reading this text made it very apparent that every genre has conventions and that everything we see or read is part of a genre.

Wysocki Multiple Media of Texts

This article made me realize that everything I read or watch is all a part of a genre. I have always known the basic characteristics of genres like academic writings, children's books, magazines, and webpages. It is just like a second nature that you observe the characteristics of what you are reading or watching. However, Wysocki does a great job in making it clear how each genre is different and what makes them unique. There are general differences in genres, for example, the audience in which the work is intended for. Wysocki explains that details as tiny as the font, size, and color of the text can also distinguish genres. Through reading this article, I learned how to analyze different genres, like web pages, to understand creator's purpose. When someone creates a website or writes a magazine article every component is added with a certain purpose. I can take what I learned in this article and use this to help me with turning my research essay into different genres.

Project 2 Action Plan

After meeting about my first draft, I realized that I needed to reorganize my arguments. Our meeting helped see what direction I wanted to go in with my essay. Before the meeting I had two arguments in my first draft and then after the meeting I had four solid arguments. I went back and did some more research that helped support my thesis and answer my research question. Another change I made was I made my introduction longer. In my rough draft my introduction got straight to the point. I thought it was better that it was shorter. However, I realized that I needed to make my introduction broader and longer so my reader could understand my topic a little before I began my argument. My four well put together arguments helped me to easily put together my conclusion and "so what" which tied my whole paper together. All of these critiques helped me create a well organized research essay.

Project 2 Changes

With the final draft of the research paper I changed out how to write the methods & the results of the project in itself. I also changed the shaping of the paper by separating out my paragraphs & making them into multiple paragraphs. The focus of my paragraphs were also fixed to make it more obvious what the paragraph is focusing on as opposed to confusing the reader.

"Multiple Media of Texts"

My initial reaction of reading Wysocki's "Multiple Media of Texts" was that the author points out the readers subconscious in an interesting way. For example, Wysocki explains that the way we percieve certain genres such as an academic paper or story book have a lot to do with the assuming from the visuals which could contain large pictures and text for a story book or 12 point roman fonts for academic papers. When reading I found myself agreeing with a lot of what the author said, when I saw different examples of shapes of text I made assumptions of what genre they were. After reading this I think it will help me set up my Wix website in a much better manner. I am aware now that certain colors, shapes, text, photographs, and sounds are very important to presenting my topic in a way that will be convincing but not confusing to my audience. I have learned to consider what the audience would expect from an academic presentation but also how to create a visually pleasing presentation by using what is expected from the genre. Also, when other classmates present I can use what I have learned from this text to better analyze how they used certain aspects of the media of text.

Action Plan

In my research essay I was told to focus on the template because I had been really struggling with that. I got feedback on what exactly a lit review is and I will definitely make sure to restructure my essay according to the format now that I have a clearer understanding of how to effectively write this paper. There was also feedback on separating my argument from the literature review because I had always been taught to incorporate the two but by receiving the feedback I am going to be able to write this better than I would have before.

subversion and redemption

From this article the definition of subversion is made much more clear. In stead of the language itself being what subverts the genre its more about the fact that the indented result of the work is changed. Basically it makes it cleare that a subversion is the changing of the genre is the subversion not the changing of the narrative or the words themselves. This article will actually help greatly in my 3rd project because the clarification on the meaning of a subversion makes it more simple and easier to adapt an already written paper. One of the main things i learned is that a childrens book is a subersion because you can change the information while still following the convention and continue to subvert the genre.

Lessigs Remix

"Lessig Remix" was interesting to read as it outlined the importance of copyrighting throughout the article. He defends the idea that kids are simply trying to have fun rather than trying to copy what has already been done. The "Remix" is about the issue of excessive copyrighting nowadays in the current society of such evolved technology. I liked how he started with the anecdote to catch the attention of the reader to then transition to the ways that one can use to avoid getting into trouble for pirating.

Subversion and redemption

This article helped define what a subversion actually is for those who do not fully understand the concept. Most would not expect the language that was used therefore making it a subversion in the normal fairy tales. It helped take the topic of my research paper to convert it into something not as formal as the original but more appealing towards the humor side of the audience. The examples used really help better understand the idea behind subversion. I had never realized most children's books are actually subversion because I had never seen it that way. The history of the F word is something I had never paid much mind to and was interesting to read.

subversion and redemption

I found this article helpful because it provided me with examples of what subversion really is. I was able to see the different ways I could take my research topic and alter it to cater to another audience while also making them laugh. After reading this piece I hope to incorporate these methods to mock my original topic. I feel as though this will shine light on the issue while also making it enjoyable for my audience.

subversion and redemption

This article is has made it clearer for me what a subversion truly is. The book, GTFTS is a funny spin on the normal fairy tales. Parent and children do not normally expect this type of language in a children book, making it a subversion. I have always enjoyed spins on things so it is out of the ordinary. SNL (Saturday night live) does this a lot, by making spoofs of songs and creating awkwardly inappropriate kissing scenes at thanksgiving movies, among many other satirical skits. I have also never been a "girly girl" so the spin on princess movies, where the princess does not need the guy or is super great at fighting - are personally the best to me. This will make it easier for me to understand my subversion.

Lessigs Remix - Danielle OBrien

This article was very informative because it shows how serious copyrighting is, and the risks that can come with it. I know how serious copyrighting is because Ive seen people have to take down videos or posts because they used certain songs or pictures. However, I did not know how much money it costs if you do not take it down. Its surprised me that Prince's copyright team was so unforgiving to the mother who's baby was dancing to the song on youtube. I think the fine was a bit ridiculous considering she had no bad intentions. This article made me want to be more cautious with what I use on the internet because I don't want to find myself owing companies money because of the content I used.

Subversion and redemption

I thought it was interesting that the author talked about the fact that most children's books are subversive in some way or another. previously i had never thought about the fact that children's books are often used to address not only children's subjects but adult situations as well, just in a subversive. I found the history lesson on the "F" word quite fascinating. The concept of adding a curse word to a children's books is very interesting to me, the fact that it draws so much attention shows what one subversive detail can do for a piece of work.

Subversion and Redemption

I actually found this article really interesting. I enjoyed how the author used children's books to explain subversion, because it was an easy way to understand subversion better and some of them seemed like really funny twists on classics. Also, the concept of a children's book that's actually for adults was  something I had never really considered before, but now a children's book for adults seems like they could be very useful to some adults who may need help in some areas. I also thought the discussion of how the F word has been used and debated was pretty fun to read, as the history of the F word is something I've never really looked into.

Subversion and Redemption - Danielle OBrien

I was confused with subversion at first, but this article helped me to understand what exactly it is. I found it interesting how the author got creative and used an approach on a kids book that no one had seen before. A book that was meant for children was made in to a funny, profound book from the parent's perspective that most adults can relate to. For my subversion project, I plan on taking my serious topic and making it funny through memes. This way it will still be informative, just in a funnier, more light hearted way.

Subversion and Redemption

This article revealed a lot of great truths behind subversions. I love how the author said subversions are parodies and those parodies sometime can be unique enough to be their own original story. That really gives way to what subversions truly are or can be. The examples given within the texts are one of my favorites. One being Shel Silverstein, who flipped the conventional doodles with words on its head and made it something completely unlike a children’s book. The author goes on to keep using children’s books as a great example of the variety of subversions.

Lessigs remix

In this reading it discussed the importance of using credible sources and the impact that is has on the quality of writing produced. There is also significant emphasis on making sure to quote things in the proper way whether it be a book, movie or etc., if quoting is not done in the proper way it becomes stealing. The essay also comments on writing and using sources in the age of digital technology. There are some very interesting questions posed and answered throughout the reading.

Subversion and redemption

I really enjoyed the text,  the example of the children book GTFTS was a great example of a subversion. The author discusses all the different levels to the subversion. This was very helpful when trying to complete my subversion because I was able to see all the different ways someone could interpret the same subversion. GTFTS is a good example because there are many different levels and interpretations of the story. The author also discussed how one subversion can lead to many more subversions.

Lessig Remix

This article added to my knowledge of just how important it is to credit sources. It showed how a mother could get in trouble by simply posting a video of her son dancing to a Prince song. Major companies, such as Universal, take copyright agreements seriously and do not want their ideas or material taken. The text showed me how creativity is being diminished because of the current laws.

Subversion and Redemption-Eric Heinrich

Overall, this text was an enjoyable work. It obviously leans toward comedy to show what a subversion of a work is. By opening by describing what parents do and don't want in a bedtime story, Patkin sets up the joke in the title of the book. Arguably the best thing about GTFTS is the reality that it came out of a real parents experience. This explains how a subversion works by showing that by changing a genre convention of a work makes it a satire of the original.

Subversion and Redemption - Samantha Held

Overall, I enjoyed this text. I found it comical how Adam Mansbach based his adult book on children and it became a hit; his book, GTFTS, is a subversive version of a book used to help children fall asleep. I thought it was interesting how children were not always referred to as children, they were always small adults. Subversion and Redemption was also helpful for project three. I am taking my research topic and making it into a children's book, and the article gave insight on how to. It showed how to take take something that is generally made for one audience and change it.

Subversion and redemption

This article made me laugh just because that children"s book was so vulgar. It reminds me of my parents. This example did help me with my book though. I don't think my book is subversive enough. So now i might make a subversive blog or social media account mocking long distance relationships. The second part of the article also helped me with changing the genre. I think my kids book is a good change in audience because kids usually don't learn about long distance relationships since they're young and not dating.

Subversion and Redemption

This reading begins with explaining how what parents want is for their child to go to sleep and not be awake from the day's activities.  The author explains how utilizing picture books, is calming to kids.  Furthermore,  the author talks about the children's books for adults and how they are subverted.  For example,  GTFTS, which is about "parental frustration and anger with an uncooperative toddler" (96).  What is subversive about it the author uses the F word commonly.  So, obviously it is not a kid's book.  Subversion is used in many forms as I have learned from this reading.
with an uncooperative t

Lessig Remix

I found "Lessig Remix" very interesting.  Lessig believes that copyright should be revised, hence the story that was told about Holden.  "Remix" is about the issues with copyright nowadays that are excessive with this day and age.  With the digital age and new technology, videos and music are often mixed and spread like wildfire.  I really enjoyed reading this because he defends kids and their creativity.  These kids are not trying to copy everything, just have fun.

Lessig Remix

The article "Lessig Remix" showed me what a remix is and the problem today with copyright. The story at the beginning of the article of a mom posting a funny youtube video of her child dancing to a Prince song, showed me that companies like Universal take copyright very seriously. Although the mother just thought her dancing child was funny the song belonged to someone else. This article taught me that our culture is rapidly changing and that even new hip genres like mash ups are seen as illegal. Another important thing I leaned that I will be sure to do in my writing or any creative project is give credit where credit is do.

Subversion and Remix

The article, "Subversion and Remix" helped my understand what a subversion is and to make a piece of writing a subversion. Before reading this article I just that a subversion was like when you take one work and change the genre. However, by reading this I learned that a subversion is when you present something in a way that was never expected. I found it interesting that by just changing one word in a children's book, like Adam Mansbach did with his book in 2011, you can make the whole thing a subversion. Mansbach's book was very successful on Amazon and I think it was so popular because it was unexpected and many adults have the same struggles with their children, so this subversion perfectly described their feelings. After reading this article I learned ways that I can do my subversion in project three. One of the whats to subvert that I maybe will use is having my work be sarcastic or changing the way a character behaves. If I do a children's book for the project I can follow what Mansbach did and not only change the language but also use the illustrations to subvert.

Subversion and Redemption

In this article, the new take on adults getting children to go to sleep is explained to help reiterate the act of a subversion.  I found it interesting that the subversion of a child's bedtime story was changed to focus to towards adults who had gone through similar feelings and experiences when trying to get their child to go to bed.  I find that the act of changing the obscurities and some of the themes in GTFTS to fit the child was interesting but it is the act of subverting and subversion.  This article helped me understand what a subversion is and understand the real examples of them that I have witnessed but never payed attention to, such as the change of Celo Green's song to fit the public and be played on the radio.  Overall, this article is interesting as it focuses on different subversion's, focusing on GTFTS, and highlights the differences in audience and topic.

Subversion and Redemption

I found the topic in this article very interesting especially the fact that a parent was able to turn a chore that they dreaded at times into a best selling book. I am intrigued that someone was able to turn the idea of putting a child to sleep that is always portrayed in movies to be peaceful and pleasant into a vulgar story. The brutal honesty found in GTFTS makes me think about all the other aspects of our day to day lives that people glamorize and avoid portraying in a negative light.

Multiple media of texts

After reading the article " The Mulitple Media of Texts" I was informed on how to convert texts and other words into different genres or media. I found this article very informative by opening up with the basic concepts and explaining such concepts as the text size and font, along with the typefaces of a paper. Again, this article discusses the use of color and how to analyze the use of it and photographs.

Subversion & Redemption

This article talks about all the different types of parodies seen today. It begins talking about the problem that everyone knows about, trying to get a kid to sleep. It is an issue most parents face and is solved by children's books. However, one parent wrote a subversion of a children's book which became very popular. The book "Go the Fuck to Sleep" relates most parents to the issue in a comical way. Throughout, the author writes more examples that subversion children books relate to issues in a humorous way. The examples help the reader understand what he means because most books he mentions are well-known. Children books for adults seem to be popular today and liked by many because of their adult humor. In the article, subversion is used numerous ways and is well described though various examples.

subversion and redemption

The article "Subversion and Redemption" was interesting because it used children's picture books as an example. The author explains how many parents do not want subversion in their children books since they want them to go to sleep quietly. Overall, this article was very informative in describing subversion.

Subversion and Redemption

Subversion and Redemption starts out by explaining how unwanted subversion is by telling how all a parent wants is for their child to quietly and calmly fall asleep. I found it interesting how picture books are one method for children to fall asleep peacefully. I knew this, but wasnt sure why. I also learned about the childrens book for adults. Overall, the writing was very fascinating and insightful.

Subversion and Redemption

This was one of the most enjoyable things I've read all semester for ENC 2135. I really liked the topic of changing a "Children's Book" to something crude for adults. When you grow up you lose the idea of reading for fun a lot and it's nice to see that parents could have something to relate to. I agree that just by using swear words something automatically becomes more crude, I can not imagine my mom reading "GTFTS" because she cringes even when I accidentally slip words like "shit." I have never really thought of the fact live television often can't account for slip ups in swearing or provocative but accidental nakedness until reading this. I think it was a good idea the author created a child friendly version of the book because as a babysitter nothing is more frustrating then a toddler not going to bed when they were supposed to have fallen asleep hours ago. The author brings up a good point that by showing the children a side of their parents they do not always get to see they may sympathize for them (even if it is just for that one night).

Multiple Media of Texts

Wysocki's writing discussing the multiple media of texts was very fascinating. She begins by discussing how typical writings are done, such as academic books and children books. I found it interesting that academic writing is often written in the same font with the same spacing to meet the readers' expectations. She also writes about how reading in our time is changing. I dont really think about the spacing or size of the font often, but this writing opened my eyes to how much of an affect they can have.

Lessig Remix

I found "Lessig Remix" very fascinating. The idea of mixing is a concept I had no knowledge about before. The author opened up writing about Stephanie Lenz's eighteen-month-old son and how he went crazy while hearing a familiar Prince song. The author continues to discuss the power of remixes and overtime how they've changed. The section where he discusses the understanding of cultures was interesting.

Lessig's Remix

I quite liked the way "Lessig's Remix" began, by sharing an anecdote of a parent posting a youtube video of their child dancing to a prince song then transiting into a discussion of "copyright wars." I found the way the author argued against copyright laws not supporting the upload of transitioned works of a person that may include songs, pictures or ideas from the original creator. I caught myself thinking of on how many instances I have used songs in the backgrounds of travel videos, pictures cut from magazines for collages, and popular quotations for stickers that may not follow copyrights. The author spoke a lot about how changing the original genre creates a whole different work of art. One example I found particularly interesting was when the author shared arguments from others that stated people should focus on "original creativity." If you think about it every idea in present day seems to bounce off of improvements from other ideas or by using components of certain ideas. If you just think about a simple sponge and how many different kinds of sponges you can find today, entrepreneurs probably bounced ideas off of the failures and successes of each other.

lessig remix

I found the author's thoughts about how this culture and generations put a "remix" on everything. The author began the article with the anecdote about a little baby dancing, he was able to effectively transition the story to bring up the ways one may avoid getting in trouble for pirating. It showed me an interesting way to start a research paper. This article lead me to look at my own works about how media has changed over time. The author used helpful, fun examples to have the reader relate to how the remixes occur in real life.

Lessig's Remix

I found "mixing" to be a very interesting concept. I like the idea of taking something that was preexisting and "remixing" it by adding new concepts.I like the idea that the author stated of creating your work as if it were a game, giving you more of what you want rather than just what you need.

Action Plan

Based on my peer review feedback I plan on restructuring and organize my essay so that I focus on sticking to my topic. I hope to discuss my arguments in more detail and provide more analysis of my sources.

Action Plan

Based on the peer reviews, my action plan is to describe more about the characteristics of each child and how they come to be. I need to re-structure my argument because it seemed to be too lengthy and confusing. My peer reviews found it all mostly interesting and it made sense. However, I had to detail each child's birth order more. I hope to gain the audience's attention and interest them in their own birth order.

lesig remix

After reading "lessig's remix" I found the idea of mixing very interesting. After opening up with an anecdote about a baby dancing I found the author had a very easy transition into the topic. Treating your work like a game makes the work go by faster and this idea was introduced in the article "Lessig's Remix". I will not implement this idea into doing my work.

Lessig's Remix

I found Lessig's "Remix" very interesting and eye opening due to their view of remix's through genres today and how popular it has become. This has lead to me look at my work and any literature or media I see today in the ways it has been adapted and changed over time. The section where the author speaks about the John Lennon tribute in London and in other places around the world was a great example to show the power of these remix's.

lessig remix

Treating your work like a game instead of as a product allows you to be more productive because is gives you the want to do it instead of just the need. By making work more of a game the stress of doing it is greatly lessened because it feels less like work and more like fun. Its like the adage of work is work if it was fun it would be called play. The ability of turning work into a game makes it significantly easier to use the creative element of my life to speed up the work.

Lessig remix

The lessig remix was very intersting and I love when the author states that we should treat our work like a game and less like a product. Lately my work has been stressing me out, trying to make it perfect and this advice really helps with refocusing myself and making sure i dont stress too hard over things. I will be sure to incorporate this idea into the rest of my work. The culture that we live in today tends to take orignal work and remix it into their own version. This arises the question as to "why wouldn't you get in trouble for that if it's not your own work?" The author anwers this question effectively and provides reasons as to why this form of work is acceptable.  These mixes provide a platform for people to release their creative energy and show the world their talent. Without these remixes and renditions, the world would be stagnant, and your work would be one dimensional. This paper has helped me realize to be creative and fun when writing.

After reading "Lessig Remix", I found it interesting how he introduced his idea of remixing. By beginning the piece with an adorable anecdote about a little baby dancing, he was able to effectively transition the story to bring up the ways one may avoid getting in trouble for pirating. I found the transition between these two ideas helpful because I was able to learn a unique way to begin my papers. In the future, I plan to incorporate this method of introduction in my pieces, because it will grasp my reader's attention while providing a clear backstory for the topic of my essay.

Lessig remix

The idea that this book is based off of, that the new traditions and actions of this current culture is to “remix” everything. I found it interesting that there are new markets developing and people basing this new culture as a market for new ideas that allows the consumer to interact with the item sold (ie a song).  I find it interesting that with such strict laws, such as copy rights, this remix culture is still able to prosper and continue similar to the past cultures that took old folk stories and added details to them. Although the time and the source is different (ie mass media/ produced compared to the oral stories told) there still is similarities and the remix method is continuing even with the blockages from laws and it allows artists to continue to profit too.

action plan

For my plan after peer reviews and going to the writing clinic, is to add a counter argument and fix punctuation errors. This was done by scanning my paper for any punctuation errors with a focus on the use of commas. The peer review process made it obvious that was my argument was clear but that I just didn't put enough emphasis on the counter so I will add that in. I will also add a couple more of some sources that I only used once.

Wysocki Multiple Media of Texts

Action plan

For my final draft I plan on making several different sections in the essay, making it clear to understand and giving it a better flow. I will also add a literature review to the essay giving the reader an overview of the details surrounding my topic. Finally I will add a few new pieces of knowledge that were not present in the first draft of my essay.

action plan

For my final draft I planned on fixing all my citations and making sure everything is cited. My essays is broken down by the different health affects of relationships and then the different characteristics of the relationships. I decided to add a lit review to my paper to add some background knowledge and further information I thought they needed. I also added a relevance portion to my paper to explain why this is an important topic in society today.

action plan

The plan for my essay is to attempt to list out all the fact and link them with information from my sources. Then i plan on going through and connecting all of those facts into a cohesive argument that answers my research question. The goal will be to make the best and least biased paper i can by avoiding opinions and sticking to facts and research done by accredited individuals in the field.

Action Plan

For my final draft, my main issue was staying on topic.  I plan on tying all my arguments together and keep referring to the thesis.  Also, I need to up my word count and elaborate more.  Another thing I plan on doing is not citing too much, so I can hear my voice.

Action Plan

In my final draft, I plan to improve the overall structure of my paper by making it more organized and easy to read. I will ensure it stays on track and on topic by keeping it relevant to my thesis and central points. Additionally, I will try to incorporate more sources into it, and utilize as many pieces of evidence as I can. In adding evidence, my paper will be given much more depth and believability.

Action Plan

My action plan is to add a lit review to my research paper. Continually, I plan on elaborating more on my sources and explaining my evidence clearly. Finally, I am going to fix all the grammatical errors in my paper.

Action Plan

For my final draft, I need to increase my word count by a lot. I also am incorporating a suvey into my writing, so I need to add that into my Appendix, along with a Methods and Stimuli section. My peer review partners told my helpful ways to improve my essay. I also need to change my section titles and alter my literature review. Before I submit I will read it over and check for spelling and grammar errors.

Action Plan

For my final draft, I will do a final run-down and fix any small errors. My peers recommended me to add a comparison between two of my main subjects, which I have added. I have also taken into account the fact that I should not use words like "I" "me" or "our". I fixed the situation of my argument, that way my essay flows more easily. I have also added a lit review explaining some confusing components of my essay as well as included details for the reader to follow throughout the essay.

Action Plan -Isabel Hambric

After going over my paper I have decided most of my "Action Plan" will be focused on formatting. I need to have better transition and topic sentences so my reader does not feel lost. As well as clearing up some of the historical background I have included in my research paper to be more specific. I also included some information that was to broad for my subject, so I plan to remove this and replace it with more thesis specific information. Also I plan on doing a better job of setting up my quotes so they are not simply dropped in random parts of my paper.

Action Plan

For the final draft, I plan on adding more quotes into my discussion section and strengthening the all arguments.  Since my rough draft did not have a literature review section, I plan on adding that and putting mostly factual knowledge and statistics into it.  For the conclusion I will add more onto the other possibilities of travel and breaks from school that are alternatives to a gap year.  Additionally, I plan to proof read my paper another two times before I turn it in to ensure there are no grammatical errors in the final draft.

Action Plan - Samantha Held

For my final draft, I plan on adding more of my voice in my writing. My rough draft included many of the authors opinions from my sources, so I will make sure that my voice is able to be heard. Also, I need to fix some of my citations for my final draft. This will be done by adding the volume and issue number of my sources. My peers told me to add other opinions in my argument other than those of teachers. I will do this by seeing what others think of my research question.

Action Plan

I plan on making my arguments clearer and have more sources to support them. In my introduction I plan to provide more background on my topic, this will make my research seem clearer and less confusing. Lastly, in my conclusion I must include a better call to action, one that actually motivates my audience to become invested in this issue.

Action plan- Project 1

  • Revise sentence length and make ideas more clear and concise
  • Fix the amount of repetition (expand upon the main idea rather than constantly restating it)
  • Develop new arguments and ideas
  • Fix any formatting issues before final draft is submitted

Annoying Ways

This article taught me to be more cognizant of how readers might interpret my writing. It also showed me some new ways of citing things that I hadn't considered doing. This article is definitely helpful because it provides insight into a concept that I could use more information on. I also like that they shared some opinions that are similar to mine in regards to the annoying-ness of things that are common in papers. I also like that the author provided possible fixes to the things that are annoying to help people improve their writing.

"Annoying Ways"

This article helped my writing because I know how to not be "annoying" when citing my sources. I realized that in the past I have used several of the annoying ways of citing my sources due to ignorance and ignoring how to cite a source properly. This article is very beneficial in order for me as a writer to add sources in the proper way in order for readers to smoothly read my paper instead of having annoyances when they read my research paper. I also didn't know to put my sources in my works cited page alphabetically so I will start doing that to not annoy the reader.

“Annoying Ways”

This article is beneficial to my writing because the author describes the annoying situations he encounters when reading a paper without a properly written citation. I am aware of some of the problems with citations because I have committed some of these. I enjoyed how the author includes ways to correct the issues instead of just listing them. These helpful tips about citing my sources will definitely aid in my writing for this research project and hopefully not annoy the teaher with incorrect methods to cite them.

"Annoying Ways"

“Annoying Ways” was an extremely interesting article in that I was able to realize that when I do get upset about people using quotes improperly it is not just me. The excessive use of quotes is something that many people do and the fact that other people have many similar problems as we are reading through the articles and makes me realize that writing is an overall struggle to many people. The analogy Kyle Stedman uses when comparing all of the quotation errors to different functions of a car such as hitting something that is in the road to hitting and running over road kill helps readers today connect the improper use of quotes to annoying driving experiences we can relate to. Seeing this though opens my eyes and helps me look at writing papers in a new light and I have realized that I need to really contemplate where my quotes go in order to make my argument the most effective and have the reader not get annoyed with my paper in the process.

Annoying ways

When ever I read a story that uses unclear quotes I get frustrated and annoyed. So by reading about other writers having the same problems shows that maybe writing is more universal thing than I thought. In the reading the author talked about how abrupt quotes and like hitting something in the road, and I know exactly what he means. There are many things in writing that I find to be weird and I’m glad that by reading this paper I have found someone that feels the same way. The passage also opened my eyes to some of the mistakes I make while writing. It’s interesting to read something that someone wrote about being annoyed by a thing that I do in my papers. It’s a great way to check myself and learn that my writing can improve just by changing a couple of small things like using proper grammar.

Annoying ways - dawson

This article annoying ways was very interesting in the fact that it opened my eyes up to a whole new perspective that writers have. Writers have things that annoy them in there writing just like we do in ours. The writer for annoying ways compares an abrupt quotation to to hitting some thing on the road or running over road kill. This shows me how when people are reading my essays that this probably happens a lot to them. I need to start re reading my paper more often to make sure this doesnt happen in my essays. The other part of the article was about the citations and how it can be annoying for the reader when things are not cited correctly.

annoying ways-Byrtus

I was happy to read that I introduce my quotes usually the correct way. I found the in-text citation portion of this article extremely helpful. Especially when it tells that the in text parenthesized title or author should be the first word of the works cited entry. I sometimes have forgotten this in my past writings and then my readers had to go looking for the source. I was surprised in the section that talked about the writer's position on the argument. We are always told never to use first person, but here they were explaining a way to integrate it with back up sources.

Annoying Ways

This article was very interesting due to its use of rhetorical elements such as pathos and logos. The author used humor as a form of pathos to keep the reader intrigued and to convey a point. In the beginning the author compares reading a bad essay to someone driving terribly. Through the use of this example the writers point is well explained and easy for the reader to understand and relate to. Later on in the article the writer goes on to compare when a writer just throws a quote into their paper without any warning that it is just like dating Spiderman. This is a great example due to the absurdity of the comparison between the two and comedic element it provides. I also really like how the author explains a common issue in student papers but then also provides a fix to this mistake as well as an example to help the reader understand. Bolding key parts and italicizing also provides a visual aspect to understanding the text, which I found to be very helpful. Overall, the way this article was written was very helpful and successful at conveying its message.

Annoying ways

The article really caught my attention when the author used the metaphor to compare cars with writing. There had never been much thought about how bad the actual paper can be because of poor citing and how important it is to correctly set up your essay. There was a lot of annoyances mentioned in the article that I didn't even know would be bothering to readers. I liked that there was ways listed in the article on how to fix the writing issues because people usually like to point out what's wrong with the paper but never try to help improve the actual paper and I'll probably end up using this article to help check my writing before I turn in my final draft of the research paper.

Annoying Ways Reading Response

Annoying ways was very insightful and made me think a lot about my own writing and how I judge others writing. It was helpful in showing how to fix "Annoying Ways" of writing and what to do to avoid it. The analogy of a slow driver in the fast lane was really interesting to me, I felt that it was a good comparison to bad writing and the mistakes found within it. The article made me think about how people may view my writing and it helped me to realize that I should give the benefit of the doubt to others when reading there writing and find the good rather than focusing on the flaws. It was very helpful in learning how to improve writing.

Annoying Ways

Annoying Ways by Stedman is a very interesting read. I myself have written many papers that have included one of his annoyances. The drop in of quotations happens many times in papers and I have been taught to always introduce the quotes, but sadly it does not always happen. The way he gives examples is extremely helpful, some writers just say what they think without offering solutions and I love that he didnt do that. When writing, you need to explain things like the writer has no idea what you're talking about, almost in an annoying way. You think that you're overdoing your ideas, but really it helps your paper and the reader understand exactly whats going on in your head. The process of introducing a quote, then analyzing it helps a lot with expanding your writing abilities. Also, being told to never start or end a paragraph with quotes is very helpful. I have done that a couple times without even knowing that it is not the proper way to write. After every example he offers "The Fix", I love it. He also shows how not being able to find the right link in the citation from the writing is crucial. And do not quote when the author/writer did not EXACTLY say those words. If you paraphrased, give credit, but do not quote. This work has impacted my future writing skills.

Annoying Ways - Samantha Held

In Annoying Ways, the author, Kyle Stedman, uses many analogies to compare different styles of writing. The main comparison being made in the article is between incorrect writing habits and driving; Stedman shows how sloppy writing styles can be similar to a person driving too slow. He also uses smaller analogies within the article (armadillos, Spider-Man, being in the right movie, etc.) to show how different errors within an essay can leave the reader to be confused and to lose interest. As a whole, the article was enlightening; it states the proper way to quote (prepare for it, quote it, and analyze it) and how frequently a writer should quote in his/her paper. The examples provided serve as a way for the reader to see the right and the wrong way to quote something, and they are also enticing to the reader. The lighthearted tone and updated analogies make the reader want to continue to read the article. Also, the passage provided assurance for me. Stedman states that a writer should always read his/her works out loud to make sure that the sentences flow together. I use this technique a lot, so I feel better about my writing skills. I found the passage to include a lot of useful information which I will be able to apply to my writing in the future. Such information includes when, how, and where to quote in an essay.

Annoying ways

In this article the author expressed great annoyance with the way some people cite their sources. He compares every scenario do relatable situations in great depth – which is quite entertaining. The highlight of this article was the way the author seemed to explain the dos and don’ts of citing your essays. I learned about how to contextualize my information rather than just showing what I know; you should have a motive and not be an “Uncle Barry”. I also learned to minimalize the amount of quotations I use in my essay to prevent the reader from getting too lost in the actual meaning of the text. Proving that you understand the material and delving into it without quotations is a way to minimalize them. Although, it’s not only reducing the quotations, but introducing them properly and seamlessly. If you just blurt a quotation in without it fitting properly it can stick out and confuse the reader, properly gliding into the subject may help. I learned a lot about citations from this article, it was entertaining to read and provided examples on what not to do.

Annoying Ways - Danielle OBrien

I really enjoyed how the article compared being annoyed by drivers to being annoyed by Writers. This made the article more intriguing so that I wanted to know what the author had to say. The advice the author gave about adding quotations helped me because the "wrong" examples looked like something I would write. The way the author showed what is wrong and how to fix it helped me better understand the proper way to add quotations into my writing. The other part of the article that was very helpful was when it explained how to cite based on the information that you were given. Remembering all the rules to citations is very difficult because there are so many ways to do it. The article showed the most basic ways and made it very easy follow. I plan on referring back to this article when writing my essay so I can assure that my quotations and citations are done correctly.

Annoying Ways-Isabel Hambric

This article really interested me when the author used the metaphor of cars and writing. I never really thought about how much more confusing academic writing could be with bad citing. I found myself guilty of a lot of the stuff in the article such at the "Dating Spiderman" and "I Can't Find The Stupid Link." In all honesty there was a lot of annoyances I did not even realise would be bothersome to readers. I appreciated that there were listed ways to fix the writing issues because often teachers and peers will point out why stuff is wrong but not offer suggestions to improve. I will definitely use this article to check my writing before I turn in my final research paper.

Annoying Ways

After reading this article it made me realize how many annoying things I do in my writing without even  knowing it. I related most to the "roadkill" section because I am guilty of just dropping in quotes without first introducing them. I never really saw this as an issue or something that could be seen as potentially annoying but now after reading this piece I'm aware that it is something I need to change. I feel like taking steps towards fixing this error as well as the others in the piece will ultimately make my writing sound much more sophisticated and better it  as a whole.

Annoying way

In the article "Annoying Ways People Use Sources" the author compares slowing driving to sloppy writing. This is a great analogy for the problem of not following writing conventions. Readers get annoyed and upset easily when authors do not follow writing conventions similar to way drivers get annoyed when they are behind a slow driver.  If a writer knows the guidelines but does not care it is harder for the readers to trust this author's credibility. One example of an annoyance is the Armadillo Roadkill: dropping in a quotation without introducing a quote. If a writer does this annoyance it would be difficult for the audience to take him/ her seriously. An easy fix for this is by stating who the quote came from, and showing how your readers should interpret it.

Annoying Ways

Nicolas Menna Barreto

In this article “annoying ways”, I realized the importance of setting up your essays to not annoy readers. I have always thought the content of the essay I am writing accounts for 90 percent of the effectiveness of the essay but Stedman proves a point with his various metaphors. He makes it clear that a poor setup in your writing can distract readers and sometimes even take away from all the important and interesting information you have written.

Annoying Ways

In the article "annoying ways" I thought it was interesting that there were so many common errors that I make that are considered annoying to readers.  Although most of the writing rules I use were taught by past teachers, some of them fit into these annoying things.  I was most shocked to learn that it is not good to have too many quotes and that it is best to prepare the reader for an upcoming quote.  This is different from my usual writing rules, in which I was taught that the more quotes the better (but for them to still be backing analysis of course).  After reading this article I realize now that often times I don't realize that bits of my paper are sloppy and that to other readers it may seem terrible and confusing.  This has made me want to reread my drafts multiple times with additional outside editors to see if these sloppy errors are caught.  Even in some of the examples, I did not catch the error until the author described them... This has led me to understand that I need to be more conscious while reading and writing to ensure that I stray away from these sloppy errors that are often simple fixes.

Annoying Ways -Morgan Sousa

This article opened my eyes to the annoying things writers do by accident which  make their readers less interested. Through "Annoying Ways'' I was able to learn what specific things are annoying and a solution to the problem. This made me realize that I do the same annoying mistakes in my writing. For example, learned to introduce my quotations. The author compared abrupt quotations to hitting unexpected roadkill which made me see why this bothers readers. If I build up to the quotation then it will be smoother for the reader and the paper will have an overall better flow. I also learned the process of prepare, quote, analyze. When it comes to doing my research paper, this method will help me produce a better paper that engages my readers.

annoying ways

In the passage, "Annoying Ways" the author compares slow drivers and sloppy writing.  This analogy is to explain how the reader can be annoyed that the writer did not utilize syntax properly, or even cite correctly.  I agree with this for when a writer misses simple mistakes it can be "annoying."  Stedman  uses his old student's work to prove it is annoying when students provide a quote without any context before or after.  Noticing this sort of opens my eyes and to remember to look out for this in my next essay.  Furthermore, Spider-man is compared to using a quote at the end of a paragraph.  The reader is looking for more action but is just left with a quote.  Spider-man comes into play by he will hear a noise, shoot his web, he is off, but what's next?  What Stedman also establishes as annoying is putting in a citation without telling where it came from.  Without the source, the reader does not know if its accurate or reliable.  Lastly, the author leaves the reader with a statement that something annoys everyone when it comes to writing.

Annoying Ways

I found this essay very insightful and well-worded. The metaphor used to compare writers who fail to follow proper conventions to slow drivers was truly ingenious and made the point the author was trying to make much more clear and relatable. I found this essay helpful, as well. It gave good advice on structuring your writing and adapting it based on your intended audience. This paper is humorous and profound all at the same time, and should be read by all aspiring writers looking for a way to improve their writing.

"Annoying Ways" Reading Response

Brooke Morgan

In the article "annoying ways", the author talks about what annoys readers while reading essays, why it annoys them, and how to fix it. I enjoyed this article because it explains common mistakes that writers make in essays and shows ways about how to fix it. The writer also used funny, creative examples to connect the reader to the mistake. Information that the author shared that I thought could help me was when he talked about how to properly insert a quotation. Not only do you have to lead up to a quote, but you also need to explain after why that quote was important in your essay. Also, how to properly mention a citation throughout your essay was helpful. Using a book versus a website or just a page number, etc. Basically, the author mentions how readers have annoyances. Individually, the annoyances vary and it can be different in every audience. However, a writer cannot avoid the annoyances. Every person has them but you can try your hardest to better your paper to please as many people as you can.

In Annoying Ways,  a metaphor was made about slow drivers and sloppy uses of sources in writing. I was surprised by the light and informal tone of the article, and this made it an easy read towards the beginning. The writing slowly did become more informational and on topic as it continued. Stedman discusses on how the conventions of writing have a fundamentally rhetorical nature and includes tips for having perfect citations and punctuation in writing. He also makes comparisons including spiderman, and blinkers. Overall, it was a beneficial read and the metaphors made it more enjoyable.he conventions of writing have a
fundamentally
rhetorical
nature.

1. The general topic area I am considering is business and exercise
2. I am interested in this topic because I am a finance major and I enjoy to exercise
3. Many people love to exercise but cant find time to do it during work. Exercise improves worker performances.

Research questions

1.) The environment and recycling

2.) I’ve always been interested in helping the environment in any way that I can. I have also noticed many people not know a lot about recycling, the good and the bad parts of it. I want to be able to inform people as well as do my own research to find out what goes on behind the scenes that isn’t obvious to everyone.

3.) Haven’t delve into my subject yet, so I haven’t learned much. I do have questions about where the plastic that isn’t recycled goes, because I’ve heard a variety of rumors.

4.) I’m sure people may disagree with recycling or be too lazy to do it, but I’m not sure if what goes on behind the scenes is necessarily a disagreeable topic.

Research Questions - Samantha Held

1) I am considering researching divorce and how it affects the way adults parent.

2) I am interested in this topic because I have witnessed parenting styles change after a divorce and I want to know the reasoning behind it.

3) I learned that although it is the parents who go through the legal divorce, sometimes the parents and children go through a divorce as well. The divorce can change the dynamic in the family, causing distance and change in the method of parenting. I still wonder why this happens and if it gets outgrown over time.

4) With the minimal research I have conducted so far, I have found no one who disagrees about my topic.  Every article agrees that the affects of a divorce can be major to everyone who is involved. I think that as I conduct more research, I will find critics who disagree.

5) Yes, the topic is researchable in the time I have.

6) Some subtopics that have emerged in my research are financial problems, future relationship struggles, and trauma for the children involved.

7) I might pursue how divorce affects children at the time it occurs and how it affects them in the future.

8) Some key terms are "intrapsychic conflicts", "emotional support", and "financial strain".

Topic Question: To what extent does organized crime affect a society’s youth?

1.     I am interested in writing about organized crime.
2.     I am very interested in this topic and always have been. I’ve always loved movies about organized crime, especially films that are based on true stories because I loved researching about the real events after I saw the movie. For whatever reason gangsters always fascinated me, so it seems like a logical topic to write about. Also, being that I am a member of my society’s youth, I feel it is important and relevant to explore this issue’s impact on the youth.
3.     I have already discovered, to my surprise, that organized crime is still an avid issue around the world that negatively affects communities. As the R.I.C.O. statute has caused organized crime in America to somewhat die down, it didn’t seem to be as prevalent an issue. However, there are a multitude of countries that still face issues with organized crime and its impacts. I need to continue gathering data, however, to answer the question of how society has been and still continues to be impacted by the cruel hand of organized criminals.
4.     I could be wrong, however I doubt any reasonable person out there disagrees that organized crime is an issue. Thousands of people have died and had their lives harshly affected by mobsters over the years; I think we can all agree that’s a bad thing.
5.     The topic is definitely researchable in the given time as there is an insanely large amount of information and history on organized crime to be researched.
6.     Some subtopics that have emerged in my research include the economic impact of organized crime, which pertains to my major, and the social impact of organized crime, which pertains to my fellow youths.
7.     When furthering my research I will definitely pursue answers to questions that pertain to the impacts of organized crime in any country where it exists, as well the historical impacts of organized crime in the United States.
8.     Key terms that relate to this topic include violence, criminal, justice, illegal, and mercenary.
